INNOVDOC

Healthcare today depends on software that is often built by engineers who have never stood at a bedside. The result can be clunky interfaces, work‑arounds, and missed opportunities to embed evidence‑based decision support directly into clinical workflows.

INNOVDOC is a grassroots, open‑source initiative that flips this model: clinicians + clinicians‑in‑training learn the fundamentals of software development while they build small, useful health‑tech tools for the problems they encounter every day.

The core principle is simple—by doctors, for doctors. Projects start as light‑weight “mini‑apps” (a pediatric dose calculator, a gestational‑age estimator, a poly‑pharmacy interaction checker, etc.) that can be completed in a weekend. Each app includes a step‑by‑step tutorial, automated tests, and a CI pipeline, so participants gain real coding experience and a concrete contribution to patient care.

Doctors, residents, medical students, nurses, pharmacists, and any health‑care professional who sees a workflow gap are welcome. No prior coding experience is required; we start with Git, a little Python or JavaScript, and build up from there.

With INNOVDOC we aim to create a sustainable community where clinicians not only use technology but create it—producing reusable open‑source micro‑services, training future physician‑developers, and ultimately shaping a health‑IT ecosystem that truly reflects the needs of the bedside.
